Sheltie Rescue of Southern Maine (SRofSoME) is a 501 (c)(3) not for profit Charitable Organization,  State Licensed, and every person involved with SRofSoME is a Volunteer, caring for homeless and abandoned Shetland Sheepdogs, also known as “Shelties”.

We will take in any Sheltie or Sheltie mix that needs us, address all their needs and then place them in a wonderful, loving forever home.

We are not a Shelter; we do not have a Shelter facility. All the dogs that come into our rescue are taken in and cared for by volunteers that open up their homes and hearts to these rescues, this allows us to get to know each dog personally, their personality, along with any special needs they may have.

Each dog, that comes into rescue is vet checked, treated for any medical problems, spayed or neutered (every dog, no exceptions) if not already, and receive a dental cleaning if needed, are brought up to date on all shots, checked for parasites and wormed if needed, treated for fleas/ticks, tested and treated for Heartworm if positive, then are started on HW and flea and tick preventative medications and groomed.

They are then matched with a foster home where he/she will live as a member of their foster family until a permanent home is chosen. They “DO NOT” live in a Shelter or Kennel; they are in a home environment where they get plenty of exercise, quality food and sometimes even the chance to have another sheltie to play with.  The dogs are evaluated while in their foster home. They stay in their foster home until their temperament is known; behavior and training issues are addressed and any and all medical issues are cleared by the vet.

If you feel this is what will be the best thing for you and your dog, we are here to help you.
